Our Orchestra

ICYOLA transforms young lives in Inner City Los Angeles through exceptional music education. We teach youth great music from diverse traditions and create opportunities for them to perform in prestigious venues throughout our community. Our program builds musical excellence while developing critical life skills: problem-solving, critical thinking, self-reliance, confidence, discipline, and purposeful ambition.
Our orchestral program serves as ICYOLA’s cornerstone, uniting young musicians from across Los Angeles for high-caliber musical training and performance. The program features:
- Weekly rehearsals led by professional conductors and educators
- Diverse repertoire spanning classical masterworks, contemporary compositions, and music from African American composers
- Public performances throughout the year
- Solo performance opportunities for talented young musicians
- A supportive community where youth develop musical abilities regardless of socioeconomic background
ICYOLA presents 12-15 concerts annually, featuring both standard orchestral repertoire and contemporary music that resonates with our community. With approximately 125 members aged 10 and above, we conclude each season with our signature performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
