Committed to the social mobility of the nation’s most at-risk and underserved communities,
and the artistic, personal and professional development of outstanding musicians.

  • The ICYOLA Orchestra is our largest and most celebrated orchestra. It features over 100 young adult members aged 18 and above, and it presents an annual series of concerts that concludes with a Season Finale at the Walt Disney Concert Hall every July.

  • The ICYOLA Intermediate Orchestra features young people aged 12-17 who are learning the standard orchestra repertoire and thus are preparing to “graduate” to the ICYOLA Orchestra. The best members of this orchestra are occasionally invited to perform with the ICYOLA Orchestra.

  • The ICYOLA Beginners Orchestra is open to youngsters aged 5-11 who are just beginning their musical journey. It includes students in the ICYOLA Academy, and it occasionally collaborates with other beginning orchestras, like our partner the Boyle Heights Community Youth Orchestra.

  • The ICYOLA Academy is our education program through which we offer intense instruction in music and literacy on the campuses of LAUSD Elementary Schools and through summer, winter, and spring-break camps at various sites in the community.

" Nurturing talent, musicianship
and community”

The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles is a California Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Corporation that uses orchestra music as its primary means of developing strong, productive young citizens in the inner city communities of Los Angeles. It is at the forefront of preparing young musicians from underrepresented communities for careers in the orchestra world, and it is a leader in the national discussion about assuring diversity in the arts.

ICYOLA teaches the world's greatest music to inner city youth, and provides opportunities for them to perform that music on the most magnificent stages of the world. It also instills the ancillary benefits that music instruction provides: problem solving skills, critical thinking, self-reliance, self-confidence, self-discipline, and the crystallization and pursuit of meaningful purpose. It serves its community by offering an annual season of high-quality concerts that culminates each year with a performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

ICYOLA is a proud member of The League of American Orchestras. It is open to all young people aged 5-35 with a basic level of competence on orchestral instruments.
