" Nurturing talent, musicianship
The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles is a California Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Corporation that uses orchestra music as its primary means of developing strong, productive young citizens in the inner city communities of Los Angeles. It is at the forefront of preparing young musicians from underrepresented communities for careers in the orchestra world, and it is a leader in the national discussion about assuring diversity in the arts.
ICYOLA teaches the world's greatest music to inner city youth, and provides opportunities for them to perform that music on the most magnificent stages of the world. It also instills the ancillary benefits that music instruction provides: problem solving skills, critical thinking, self-reliance, self-confidence, self-discipline, and the crystallization and pursuit of meaningful purpose. It serves its community by offering an annual season of high-quality concerts that culminates each year with a performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
ICYOLA is a proud member of The League of American Orchestras. It is open to all young people aged 5-35 with a basic level of competence on orchestral instruments.
